After months of false starts and speculation, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich will make it official today: he’s running for president in 2012.

While Gingrich was once the most recognizable and powerful Republican in the country, he’s now been out of office entirely for 13 years.

He remains a respected figure within the GOP thanks to his policy chops but has to overcome some significant hurdles not the least of which is the fact that he has been married three times.

So, can Gingrich actually win the GOP nomination in 2012?
